OUR ASSOCIATION
It is important that inventors who have works that protected by copyright and related rights working together to manage their creative works on better manner and able to reduce and prevent infringements. According to Article 55/1 of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the copyright and neighboring right protection proclamation No. 410/2004 and the Amendment proclamation 872/2014 were promulgated and entered into force. These two decrees help to establish a robust legal system which is suitable for the protection of copyright and related rights in the country and create conducive environment to accommodate the recent developments in the sectors and also to create a situation where copyright holders can manage their rights in an organized and consolidated manner. Article 2(32) and Article 32(1) of this declaration defines and states the association as “Collective Management Society is a society formed by the owners of copyright and neighboring rights to jointly administer their rights.” Therefore, we, rights holder of creative works who are found in Ethiopia and engaged in five sectors (Music, literature, Audiovisual, Theater and drama, painting & Photograph established “the Collective Management Society of Ethiopia” on June 18/2017.
A collective management Society of Ethiopia (CNCM) is appointed by copyright and neighboring rights holders to manage the rights of its members. The higher level of the organization is the general assembly which is the association of the whole members. Accordingly, the society lead by a board. The board members elected by the general assembly council and the board hired experts based on its authority given by the general assembly.

Collective management represents a group of copyright right holders who agree to come together and establish an organization that represents all of them in administering their rights so as to address difficulties of personally exercising such rights. Simply said that the society formed by the association of the members. The members formed the general assembly. The general assembly of the society is the top level of organizational structure of the society. The members of the general assembly assigned board members and the board leads the society until their active time elapsed. The board members of collective management of Ethiopia copyright and neighboring rights society elected Dr. Mussie Yakob chairman of the board and the collective society as well. Artist Tewodros Mosisa serves as the vice chair man of the society. The board hired high caliber and competent staffs who have enough knowledge about legal and administrative issue of copyright and neighboring rights.

It is particularly important that a combination of legal analysis skills, practical problem solving ability and familiarity with the cultural terrain form part of the core criteria in the specifications drawn up for the person to manage the society. Based on this fact, the board hired a manager and an accountant and will extend the hiring of additional staffs in different fields such as literature and art, law and businesses.
PROJECTS
The collective management of copyright and neighboring rights of Ethiopia has a number of projects that will be accomplished in a definite time. We are working to achieve our goals in less financial and time costs. Some of the projects of the society are introducing and establishment of royalty collection and distribution system, collecting more than half of copyright and neighboring right holders of the country in six months, registering all royalty payers who are resides in Addis Ababa and around with in half of a year, establishing a strong copyright awareness creation and enforcement teams and going to address the whole public via mainstream and social media. In addition, we will generate financial and material resources by finding non-government and governmental donors and partners.
