Our Organization
It is important that inventors who have works that protected by copyright and related rights working together to manage their creative works on better manner and able to reduce and prevent infringements. According to Article 55/1 of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the copyright and neighboring right protection proclamation No. 410/2004 and the Amendment proclamation 872/2014 were promulgated and entered into force. These two decrees help to establish a robust legal system which is suitable for the protection of copyright and related rights in the country and create conducive environment to accommodate the recent developments in the sectors and also to create a situation where copyright holders can manage their rights in an organized and consolidated manner. Article 2(32) and Article 32(1) of this declaration defines and states the association as “Collective Management Society is a society formed by the owners of copyright and neighboring rights to jointly administer their rights.” Therefore, we, rights holder of creative works who are found in Ethiopia and engaged in five sectors (Music, literature, Audiovisual, Theater and drama, painting & Photograph established “the Collective Management Society of Ethiopia” on June 18/2017.
A collective management Society of Ethiopia (CNCM) is appointed by copyright and neighboring rights holders to manage the rights of its members. The higher level of the organization is the general assembly which is the association of the whole members. Accordingly, the society lead by a board. The board members elected by the general assembly council and the board hired experts based on its authority given by the general assembly.
