Copyright and Neighboring Rights Collective Management of Ethiopia (CNCM) is a society formed by the owners of copyright and neighboring rights to jointly administer their rights. The society comprise right holders in the fields of music, audiovisual, theater, literature, painting, photography and others.

Simplifying management
For individual creators and copyright owners, managing their rights can be complex and time-consuming. Collecting societies provide a centralized system for managing rights, collecting royalties and distributing payments among rights holders.

Why do you need a License?
Under Ethiopian intellectual property law, a copyrighted work may not be performed, broadcast, or streamed without the prior authorization of the copyright owner. Without such permission, the user may be subject to civil and criminal liability for copyright infringement. The legal penalty for the unauthorized use is serious as the first offense is punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years.

What we do?
Registration
Right holders can register their works in the system to legally document their ownership rights and facilitate the enforcement of their rights.
Licensing
In order to use copyrighted work in the public, users need public performance license from the society.
Monitors
CNCM monitors public performances of registered works and enforce its members’ rights when their copyrighted works are performed publicly without authorization.
Collecting Royalties
When Copyrighted work is performed publicly by users, CNCM system collects royalties on behalf of the right holders.
Distribute Royalties
CNCM distributes the collected royalties to the owners of the right according to their share percentage.
